Our Story

Church on the Move - Our Story

Richard & Louise Verreynne served in local pastorates for four decades during which time they experienced God's missional overflow as the Spirit of God worked fresh faith, fresh obedience, and effective ministry right from the heart of the local church.

Serving as president of a theological seminary he established a strong missional emphasis through a partnership with World Thrust International, the Worldwide Christian Movement with its Perspectives study programme, and the Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham ALABAMA.

During the 1990s World Thrust South Africa was established and in less than ten years over three thousand local churches were effectively mobilized for world evangelization. This inspiring wave of missional fervour extended into Africa and rendered abiding fruitfulness in various parts of the Globe.

When more and more local churches began struggling with survival amidst a rapidly changing newly democratized South Africa, the partnership with Briarwood and its Church Revitalization ministry proved invaluable. In Embers to a Flame conferences the biblical paradigm for church vitality was shared and from that flowed a facilitation process called Fanning the Flame.

Richard and Louise have travelled extensively in their effort to keep the church in South Africa well-informed with mission research, determining trends and insights, and communicating opportunities.

Their clarion call has been found in the words of our Lord Jesus: As the Father has sent Me, I also send you!

"For more than three decades now He has led us to stir, encourage, equip, and mobilize local churches to be God's instrument of hope in this world. We have focused our prayers and efforts on church leaders, helping them to build healthy churches who would have God's heart for the world, actively making disciples among all nations."
